Film Noir Drawings (2006-2010)

For several years now, I have continued a series of small ink drawings based on stills from old Film Noir movies from the 1940s and 1950s.  My fascination with the style of those films, and looking for ways of abstracting the visuals that particularly grabbed my attention has contributed greatly to my own personal aesthetic approach.  I continue the series in my spare time as a means of keeping my hand loose and my mind fresh.  There are certain rules within which I force myself to work when working on these drawings, so the challenge becomes trying to make a unique composition while sticking to those rules.  This series allows me to relax my mind in the hiatus between more conceptually complex series.  Bellow are a few examples from the series completed between 2006 and 2010.
